The Office of the Assembly is a small office with a wide-ranging procedural and administrative responsibilities including: ensuring that the legislative process is followed, securing the parliamentary precincts, and providing the technology that members require to discharge their duties as elected parliamentarians. This talk focuses on the unique role of the independent, impartial and non-partisan staff, and the issues that arises from operating as a small (legislative) island in a mammoth administrative state.

WILLIAM WONG is currently the deputy parliamentary counsel in the Table Research Office of the Office of the Assembly. He was previously Table Research Clerk. He provides legal and procedural advice to senior Assembly staff and represents the Assembly in various legal matters. Prior to joining the Office of the Assembly, William was a litigation associate at a major national law firm and clerked at the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. William obtained his LL.B. at Dalhousie University and his LL.M. at the University of Cambridge.
