University Professor Emeritus Ian Macdonald will reflect on practical issues and dilemmas that he has faced over the course of sixty-two years as an academic, deputy minister in the Ontario Government, university president, corporate director, and volunteer in the not-for-profit world.

H. IAN MACDONALD is President Emeritus (York); Professor Emeritus of Economics and Public Policy; Former Director of the Master of Public Administration Program (Schulich). Ian was President of York University from 1974 to 1984. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and Oxford University (Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College). He is former Chief Economist of Ontario and Deputy Treasurer of Ontario and Deputy Minister of Treasury, Economics, and Intergovernmental Affairs. From 1994 to 2003, he was the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth of Learning; He is a Fellow of McLaughlin College and a past Director of a number of international academic organizations. In 1977, Ian was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. He was awarded the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, the Queen Elizabeth II Silver, Gold, and Diamond Jubilee Medals, and the Canadian Centennial Medal. Ian was the winner of the Vanier Medal for public service and is a recipient of a variety of honorary degrees in Canada and abroad. He is also former Chair of Hockey Canada.
